Discovery and Service Mapping provide automated discovery of your on-premises and cloud infrastructure. These capabilities auto-generate application dependency information for topology visualization. Pattern frameworks from ITOM Visibility provide codeless content to discover IT landscapes. Out-of-band releases, via this store application, provide pattern content for Discovery and Service Mapping that enable the following features:
- Discovery of new technology stacks to collect inventory and topology data for the CMDB initiatives.
- Mapping of services containing applications discovered with the latest available patterns.
Key features
Use the pattern content for Discovery and Service Mapping to achieve the following results:
- In addition to hosts and applications supported by default, Discovery finds other hosts and applications by deploying patterns available in the ServiceNow Store.
- Service Mapping maps services containing additional hosts and applications.
New patterns are regularly published in the ServiceNow Store between major product releases. Discovery and Service Mapping customers can use updated or modified patterns without having to wait for the next major release.
You can submit new pattern requests to Idea@community.servicenow.com.

- Discover Oracle Databases on UNIX using Oracle Wallet instead of storing applicative credentials in the ServiceNow instance.
- Control which IP version Discovery populates on a Network Adapter CI during Linux, Windows, and Solaris discovery using the network_adaptor_preferred_ip_version MID Server property.
The NVIDIA GPU pattern extension now requires the AI Agent Topology Mapping application to be installed on the instance for Discovery to process.
- Discovery patterns for MacBook (macOS) devices now correctly use SSH instead of PowerShell when executing the Parse Command Output step. (PRB1794971)
- The "Windows OS – Desktops" and "Windows OS – Servers" patterns now correctly populate the chassis type attribute for all DMTF Win32_SystemEnclosure chassis types. (PRB2022107)
- The "Netscaler Load Balancer" pattern no longer sends SSH commands and operates exclusively via SNMP or API-based probes. (PRB1481614)
- The "Sun iPlanet Webserver" pattern now correctly captures version details for discovered CIs. (PRB2008576)
- The "Tomcat" pattern now works correctly on Windows systems. (PRB2009609)
- Security fixes. (PRB1958296)
- Stack member switches that have been physically removed from a stack configuration no longer maintain a "Stack Member of" relationship with the main switch in the CMDB. (PRB1956550)
- The "Windows OS – Servers" pattern now correctly maps volumes and file systems to their corresponding disk partitions when a disk contains multiple partitions. (PRB1996598)
- The L2 physical connection discovery pattern no longer incorrectly prioritizes LLDP results over CDP results, allowing physical connections to be created correctly. (PRB2010579)
- The "Linux - AWS" pattern step "Check if it is compiled by amazon" now executes successfully without encountering an unexpected operator condition. (PRB1973788)
- The ".NET Application" pattern no longer returns an incorrect version value during Service Mapping top-down discovery, which previously caused the "Tomcat" pattern to be skipped. (PRB1998094)
- The "Windows OS – Servers" pattern now correctly stores the installation date and time on Windows Server CIs regardless of the time zone of the discovering MID Server. (PRB1945809)
- The "Apache On Windows" pattern no longer exits prematurely during Service Mapping top-down discovery. (PRB1968918)
- The "Jboss" pattern now correctly handles the jboss_home variable and the EVAL Script directory variable. (PRB1987372)
- The "Google Cloud Platform (GCP) - Discover Related Projects" pattern no longer discovers Google-managed system projects (sys- prefix), improving Discovery performance and resource utilization on the instance. (PRB2007167)
- Discovery now correctly identifies JDBC database connections based on data from the jdbc-pool.html file. (PRB1979566)
- The "Network Router" and "Network Switch" discovery patterns now correctly create the relationship between network CIs and their associated DNS Name CIs. (PRB1964684)
- The "Active Directory Domain Controller On Windows" pattern now works correctly when multiple Domain Controllers are present on the same host. (PRB1989809)
